Welcome to BSJA Area 48 - Somerset

Area 48 are part of the South West Region (Region J) of The British Show Jumping Association.

To be a part of Area 48 you must be a member of the BSJA & reside within Bristol (BS Postcode) or on the County of Somerset. Area 48 currently have a wide range of members who ride both horses & ponies.

The Area is looked after by an Area Representative (Neil Wells) and a committee of consisting of Paul Dunning, John Webb, Jancey Wembridge, Kirsty Pearce, Katie Pike, Emma Salway and Hannah Thorne. All contact details can be found on the Contact Us page.

Area 48 have many Venues that run BSJA events throughout the year such as, Badgworth Arena, Hand Equestrian Centre, Moorhen Farm, Stretcholt Farm and Wick St Lawrence EC. We also have Show Jumping at County Shows i.e. Frome Cheese Show, Mid-Somerset Agricultural Show, North Somerset Agricultural Show, Royal Bath & West Show and the Tytherleigh Horse Show.

The Area 48 Committee also run Winter & Summer Show during the year, which are currently being held at Stretcholt Farm. Area 48’s support their junior & senior riders by offering regular lessons with an experienced BSJA Accredited/UKCC Level 3 Showjumping Coach throughout the year. The Junior Academy which is run by Maria Gibson & Mandy Frost is designed to support the progression of the junior riders ranging from Under 11’s up to Young Riders.

Each year Area 48 run a Points Championship which is designed to award Area 48 Members who have had a successful season. Trophies & Prizes are presented at the Annual Area 48 Dinner Dance in January to the top 3 riders in each section with rosettes given to 6th place. We currently have 4 sections, Senior Open, Senior Novice, Junior Open & Junior Novice.

Six Month Membership for Grade C Horses

A Grade C Horse is a Horse that has won less than £999.00 in British Showjumping competitions.
